We have developed a prototype of an AI-powered proposal evaluation tool designed to support nonprofits and foundations in reviewing and scoring grant proposals more efficiently and consistently. Leveraging ChatGPT-4o, the tool analyzes multiple proposals and generates scores based on predefined evaluation criteria, which are supplied as structured attachments and integrated into the prompt to guide the AI’s assessment.

The current prototype is primarily based on advanced prompt engineering and carefully structured input formats. As we move toward a minimum viable product (MVP), we plan to incorporate the latest OpenAI API to enable greater automation, improved accuracy, and broader scalability.

This tool aims to streamline the proposal review process, reduce administrative burden, and support more equitable and data-informed funding decisions. A sample output, designed to aid nonprofit or foundation staff in final decision-making, is included below.
